What do I need to open files from the UIC and where can I use it?

Since ImageJ/FIJI are freeware we recommend that you use it on your own computer. There are computers with a high memory buffer for image processing at all UIC locations where you can use this software for large data sets. These computers also have Imaris and Elements software packages along with most major image editing and presentation softwares.

If using ImageJ...switch to FIJI ;). otherwise with ImageJ you will need to download and install the LOCI plugins into the ImageJ plugin folder to open the proprietary formats from our scopes. Infomation and download is here: http://www.openmicroscopy.org/site/support/bio-formats5/

This function is built into FIJI.

 

FIJI

          

  • Fiji is just ImageJ
  • Compatible with both OSX and Windows Operating Systems.
  • Fiji is an image processing package that be described as a distribution of ImageJ together with Java, Java 3D and a lot of plugins organized into a coherent menu structure.
  • The main focus of Fiji is to assist researchers using multiple dimension data sets in life sciences.
 

Proprietary software for viewing images collected on several of our Nikon microscopes. NIS Elements is the full version which can be purchased (http://www.nis-elements.com/index.html) ; NIS Elements Viewer for PC and Mac is a free, "light" version. (http://www.nis-elements.com/resources-downloads.html)

Nikon NIS-Elements Viewer (Mac)     

  • Compatible with Mac.
  • Application for viewing and converting (.tif) Nikon .nd2 files.
  • To install, click and run the installer executable.

 

Nikon NIS-Elements Viewer (PC)    

  • Compatible with Windows 7, Vista, and Windows XP.
  • Application for viewing and converting Nikon .nd2 files.
  • To install, click and run the installer executable.

 

Huron Slide Viewer

HuronViewer (PC)

  • Compatible with Windows 7, 10, Vista, and Windows XP.
  • Application for viewing and converting Huron large tiff (.tif) files.
  • To install, copy to your computer, click and run.

Nikon EZ-C1 Freeviewer  AZ100C1si Confocal format

  • Compatible with Windows 7, Vista, and Windows XP.
  • Application for viewing and performing simple tasks with Nikon C1si Confocal files.
  • To install, click and run the installer executable.

ImageJ 

  • Compatible on both OSX and Windows Operating Systems.
  • ImageJ is an image processing and analysis application written in Java, widely used in the life sciences fields.
  • ImageJ Tutorial is a beginners guide to using ImageJ.
  • Loci Tools is a ImageJ plugin for opening Nikon, Olympus, Zeiss and Leica Confocal files as well as other fomarts in ImageJ. To install, place the .jar file into the plugins folder located within the ImageJ folder.
  • You may also find additional ImageJ plugins to help with your specific project.

 

Confocal Assistant

  • Compatible with Windows Operating Systems.
  • Application for viewing Bio-Rad PIC images.

GIMP  

  • Compatible with both OSX and Windows Operating Systems.
  • GIMP is the GNU Imaging Manipulation Program.
  • Freely distributed software for such tasks such as photo retouching, imaging composition and image authoring.

Inkscape  

  • Compatible with both OSX and Windows Operating Systems.
  • Inkscape is a vector graphics editor, with capabilities similar to illustrator, CorelDraw, or Xara X, using the W3C standard Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) file format.

The R Project  

  • Compatible with both OSX and Windows Operating Systems.
  • R is a free software environment for statistical computing and graphics.

Fluoview Viewer

  • This software will read the data captured by a FV1000/FV500/FV300. Images saved with the FV file format (OIF, OIB, FV Multi-Tiff) can be read.
  • Since this software is for reading, image capture, measurement, analysis, 3D function etc. can not be used by this software.
